The biologically active form of folic acid. L-Methyfolate plays a crucial role in the methylation cycle, one of the core processes of our metabolism. Low levels of 5-MTHF can lead to impaired methylation and increased homocysteine, which is a severe cardiovascular risk factor. People with the MTHFR genetic mutation have trouble converting folic acid from food into 5-MTHF and therefore have a need for supplementation.
